God's Waiting Room - Learning to TRUST
June 1, 2008
I have been in God’s waiting room for a month now…learning to trust.
Last month I was actually sitting in the hospital waiting room with my two daughters, my oldest granddaughter and one of my best friends. Others were in that hospital waiting room also. Some who were alone made me so grateful for the entourage of family and friends I had holding me up. My oldest daughter and my friend were very entertaining, they would make a good comedy team, and therefore the waiting went by quickly.
Often times for me ignorance is bliss. If I don’t know what the bottom line is I have no need to worry. That was the case last time I was in the hospital waiting room, I wasn’t fully aware of what was going to happen in the operating room. This time I have cause for concern. I went to the doctor appointment this time, I heard the doctor describe the process in detail and I was able to ask questions. I had great concern about one particular procedure they are going to do. But I clearly heard God saying, Trust Me!
But can I really trust? I need peace and I want it now! I know that happens to you too. We know that we can trust God but there’s just that one little, small bit that we are just not sure of. It constantly nags us for attention, to get our doubts stirred up. To get us off the path of “whatsoever things are true”. (Phil. 4:8)
God knows we are like that, He knows it’s hard for us to trust completely so He does everything possible to reassure us. Not only does He do everything to reassure us but He uses the most unlikely people. That’s for effect! So we are so totally blown away by His love for us that we have to work really hard now to doubt.
For me he used my hairdresser! Now who would have thought that a hair stylist would know about the intricate details of drilling the plague out of an artery? I mean really. But that is who He used to reassure me that I didn’t need to be concerned, that I could totally trust Him.
As I was telling her about the first procedure my husband had and what they were about to do this time I shared with her my concerns. Suddenly without any warning she exploded with excitement. She knows about that drill! She heard the guy who developed that drill 10 years ago and not only that but her dad works for the company that makes that drill. It gets even better, he is one of the engineers himself who makes the drill they will use on my husband. WOW!
I start to feel my concern leave and be replaced with peace. It seemed to start in my toes and as she told me how this drilling process renews your lease on life and how after 10 years they have perfected it more the feeling became stronger. The more she told me to the peace seemed to move from my toes all the way up my body until I could feel a sense of relaxation in all my muscles. So…
What has you concerned today? Are you listening for His quiet whisper of reassurance? How will you be able to recognize it’s Him?
