Growth - Will It Ever Happen?
April 1, 2009
The calendar says it's Spring. The weather man says it's Spring. How come it doesn't feel like Spring? How long do we have to wait??? Some of my outdoor periennials came up only to die from the freezing temperatures. Have you wondered when you will see growth in your walk with God? Have you found yourself wondering if God is ever going to use you? Or spent more than your share of time with someone and they still haven't 'gotten it'? Have you seen the beauty of new growth only to have it die out in coldness from the lack of connection with Jesus? Interesting fact: once the bamboo seed is planted the farmer waters it everyday. He does this for 4 years before the tree even breaks ground. When it finally does, it grows 60 feet in the next 90 days. Right now I am growing seeds inside my house because I'm not sure Spring is ever going to arrive. I was diligent to find the right soil, I set the little brown pots full of soil and seeds on the dining room table to get the full light of day, I diligently check them for water and then give them what they need. THEY ARE GROWING! The seed packets said it would take 7-20 days to sprout. Some came up in 7 days, some in 10 days and as we are on day 14 I am nervously waiting for day 20 because some aren't up yet. There is one container that hasn't sprouted and I find myself wondering if I have done something wrong. Is the temperature wrong, am I not giving them enough water or too much water, are they getting the right sunlight exposure. I want them to sprout right now, I don't want to wait any longer. The others are up why are these taking so long? That's how it is with my walk with God also. I wonder how long it will be before all of me is sprouted, before I see the complete fulfillment of my purpose, God's plan. Am I doing something wrong in my growth process? When will it be my time to grow 60 feet in 90 days so to speak? As I connect with God on a daily basis, surrendering each day to Him and say 'yes' to what He asks me to do I will see the kind of growth that the bamboo seed produces. My job is that of the farmer who diligently does his part so God can do HIS part. My friend shared a quote with me recently that speaks to the 'growth concept'..."My life is taking off in proportion to my courage to say 'yes' to God everyday." Mike Breaux Where and when do you connect with God? What signs are you seeing that means growth is happening? If you are not seeing signs of growth are you still tending to and watering the garden of relationship with Jesus? In what areas are you saying 'yes' to God despite your fear? Blessings to you, Rhoda
