God Is Bigger Than The Boogeyman
February 1, 2009
I love this song from the Veggie Tales tape, it reminds me of the power of God against the 'enemy' of my life. Satan wants to keep me bound in fear so that I don't make any difference in my sphere of influence. John Eldredge in "Waking the Dead" says, "There is a glory to your life that your Enemy fears, and he is hell-bent on destroying that glory before you act on it."
Recently I had a medical test done. In order to be sure I didn't move they wrapped this large velcro cloth around me. It reminded me that that is like what happens when I allow myself to be wrapped in fear. I can't even move. John Ortberg in his book "If You Want to Walk on Water, Get Out of the Boat" says there are 366 scriptures in the Bible on fear. That's one for every day of the year plus one for leap year. Do you think God knew we would be a fearful people? So this month I am going to share with you a few of my favorite 'fear' scriptures. Economic times right now are very unstable and lay-offs continue... Matthew 6:25 & 26 says, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" A recent health issue had me fearful. My sister had died a year and a half earlier from the very illness I was being tested for. Isaiah 41:1-3 & 13 says, "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have a firm grip on you and I'm not letting go, don't panic, I'm right here to help you." I can become easily intimadated by those who are more educated or are in some way accomplished. "What will they think of me?", plays over in my head. Psalm 27:1 says, "The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear or dread? The LORD is the refuge and stronghold of my life --of whom shall I be afraid? What or who has you fearful today? What do you have control over? Of the things you do not have control over, how and when will you give those to God? Blessings to you, Rhoda
