Oxygen Mask Survival
September 1, 2009
We all have a major crisis at least once in our lifetime. When an airplane encounters a crisis in which the oxygen masks are deployed we are told to put ours on first then help the one next to us. Here are 10 tips for 'Oxygen Mask Survival': 1.Surrender - What should you surrender? Whatever keeps you from trusting Jesus...fear, control, strongholds, etc. God already knew this crisis was coming, it did not surprise Him at all. He's got a plan, let Him work it, stay out of His way. (Job 22:21)(Luke 22:42) 2.Pray - Talk to God all day long. He's right there waiting for you to call on Him. He knows what to do. (James 4:2) 3.Worry - If you must worry plan your 'worry time'. Set 5 minutes aside to 'worry', write down EVERYTHING that could happen, think about the worst things that could come out of this. But STOP after 5 minutes and be done with it for the day. You will eventually find that the "what if's" don't happen and you will start to worry less. (Matt. 6:27) Look up scriptures on fear. 4.Eat - You are the temple of the Holy Spirit, (I Cor. 6:19-20) don't punish Him, He didn't do anything wrong. Listed below are some easy to eat foods and their calorie count. You need protein, carbs, fruit and vege's to stay healthy. Make sure you are getting the minimum of 1,200 calories a day. You have approximately 16 hours a day you can be eating. Count out your foods for the day and eat something every hour instead of a heavy meal three times a day. It won't be too much for your tummy and you will be getting what you need for 'oxygen mask survival'. Whole wheat toast - 70 calories 1 teaspoon peanut butter - 95 calories 1 scrambled egg - 100 calories 1 banana - 100 calories 1 almond - calories 1 apple - 65 calories 1 oz. cheese - 113 calories 1 orange - 81 calories Yogurt - 137 1 cup Raw Spinach - 7 calories 2 oz. Chicken - 134 calories 1 cup broccoli - 30 calories Tomatoe - 15 calories Baked Potatoe - 278 calories 1 cup brown rice - 213 5.Scripture - Phillipians 4:8 Give your mind something else to think about other than negatives all day. This is a good scripture to practice during the day. Write out the good that could come from the situation or that has already come. 6.Hostages - Take no hostages, including yourself. Don't hold yourself or others hostage to who you/they were yesterday! (Lamentations 3:22-23) 7.Fun - Do something that has given you pleasure in the past even if you have to MAKE yourself do it and even though it only lasts a short time. (Proverbs 17:22) 8.Give - Give to those less fortunate. Yes, someone is having a harder time than you. Collect children's books for the prison or homeless shelter, collect baby blankets for Children's Hospital, volunteer at a school or hospital, etc. (Proverbs 19:17) 9.Journal - Write down what God is doing in your life through this present suffering. It is easy to forget what God has done when the crisis is in the past. (2 Cor. 4:8-11) 10.Friends - We all need a friend, a real friend, a fox hole friend. The kind of friend who will tell us when we are whining, who will tell us when we are doing good, who will pray for us, who will encourage us. (Galatians 6:2) (Ecclesiastes 4:12) Father, in this moment of quiet reflection, I choose to bring my broken heart, broken spirit, and broken body to you-I come running to you. Would you please comfort me? I don't want to waste my suffering anymore. Kay Warren, Dangerous Surrender
